Pharmacy Network Agreement

A few days after a price dispute led to a public departure of the trails, Walmart Inc. and CVS Health reached a multi-year agreement under which the mega-retailer will continue to participate in the commercial and managed retail pharmacy networks of CVS Caremark (PHARMACY Benefit Management, PBM). The companies refused to disclose the financial terms of the new contract. “We are very pleased with the outcome of this multi-year mutual agreement that meets our business objectives,” said Kermit Crawford, Walgreens PPE Pharmacy. “The agreement is commercial, provides the framework we need to run our business in the future and ensures that the many consumers who are looking for us are looking for a quality pharmacy service, choice and comfort. This agreement is good for our patients, pharmacists and shareholders and will allow us to continue to meet the needs of our customers across the country through the CVS Caremark network. Per Lofberg, President of CVS Caremark`s PBM company, added: “We are pleased to have found an amicable solution with Walgreens that is consistent with our top priority to provide easy access to quality and affordable pharmacy healthcare. This new contract allows Walgreens to continue to participate in CVS Caremark`s national PBM pharmacy network, improve network stability, eliminate current or long-term disruptions for our customers or their members, and continue to fulfill our obligation to provide our customers with profitable pharmacy benefits. Nearly two weeks after Walgreens announced it was ending its supplier relationship with CVS Caremark`s PBM network — after which CVS Caremark said it would terminate Walgreen`s stake in its retail pharmacy networks within 30 days for breach of contract contracts — the two pharmaceutical giants have entered into an agreement in which Walgreens will continue to connect to the national management network cvS Caremark-Management-national benefits for existing or renewed retail plans. With Walgreens` continued involvement, the national CVS Caremark pharmacy network will include more than 64,000 participating pharmacies, including independent pharmacies in the neighbourhood, chain pharmacies and pharmacies in supermarkets and other major retailers. The country`s major pharmacy chains have entered into a new agreement in which one will remain as a member of the pharmacy management network and the benefits of the other. With Walmart`s continued involvement, the national CVS Caremark pharmacy network has nearly 68,000 participating pharmacies, including independent community pharmacies and other local pharmacies in grocery stores and mass distributors, as well as regional and national pharmacy chains. Derica Rice, President of CVS Caremark, Woonsocket`s PBM company, also stated that “as a PBM, our top priority is to help our customers and consumers reduce their pharmacy costs. This new agreement fulfills our top priority and allows Walmart to continue to participate in CVS Caremark`s Medicaid pharmacy and pharmacy networks, providing our customers and their members with better network stability.¬†Grocer banners offer on-site wellness screenings Companies do not disclose the financial terms of the new contract.
